Drawing on Our Creativity
A Summer Art Workshop for Adults
Sunday, July 17, 2-5pm, Mayne Island Community Centre

Pre-registration deadline: July 14 (limited to 15 participants)
Suggested donation: $10 (collected at the door)
Age group: Adults age 19 and older

Do you draw, doodle or just dream of putting pencil to paper and making your mark? We have a workshop for you! Tailored for complete newbies, veteran sketch artists, and those who fall somewhere in between, this afternoon session will focus on using pencil, graphite, charcoal, crayon, pens and other drawing tools on a variety of paper surfaces while exploring a range of interesting subject matter. The goal will be to create and learn together in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.
The session will be facilitated by three Mayne artists. Famous Empty Sky is well-known for her stunning collage work. Joan Stone is an artist who finds great joy in drawing whether as a beginning process or as fully finished artwork. Deborah Strong has been drawing since she could first hold a pencil and is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Together, they will offer guidance on using drawing as a creative outlet, as a stand-alone art form, or as a step in a more complex art-making process.
Come empty handed, or bring along some of your own favourite drawing materials, or show us a drawing project you already have underway to get some feedback. Whatever your level of experience and ability, you are encouraged to join us. Participants will leave the session with a hand-made sketchbook, some supplies to help them continue drawing, and a wealth of valuable experiences.
There is a suggested donation of $10 per participant but the session will operate on a pay-what-you-can basis made possible by funding from the Mayne Island Parks & Recreation Commission. Fees will be collected at the door. Preregister by JULY 14 by email at artsonmayne@gmail.com. Be sure to include your name, telephone number and email address where we can reach you.
Please note: This session is for adults only, so participants must be age 19 or older (we will explore the possibility of a workshop for younger artists in the future).
